BSCM Awards handed over

The Baltic Sea Forum and an expert jury panel has awarded nine companies and projects for their strive in making the Baltic Sea region more eco- and innovation-friendly.

The Baltic Sea Clean Maritime (BSCM) Awards, honoured for the first time back in 2013, have been given in three categories: Infrastructure, Innovative Technology, and Innovation and Science.

The first category was won by Blue Baltics - LNG infrastructure facility development in the Baltic Sea region of Lithuania, followed by the second-placed GREEN CRUISE PORT - Sustainable Development of Cruise Port Locations 2016-2019 project, and Meriaura's VG EcoCoaster ship which came on the third spot.

The first prize in Innovative Technology went to the HH Ferries Group for their battery-powered ships serving the Helsingborg-Helsingør route. LNG Value Chain for Clean Shipping, Green Ports & Blue Growth in the Baltic Sea region (GoLNG) landed on the second place of the winners' stand, followed by the LNG in Baltic Sea Ports II follow-up project.

MARELITT Baltic has won the last category, overtaking EE Baltic (a project on lifting the potentials of Baltic ports as contributors to reduced environmental impact of shipping through new energy efficiency measures), and Back to Black - deployment of affordable scrubber retrofitting technology for small- and medium ship-owners.

The BSCM Awards honour ideas, solutions, and actions that help in reducing and preventing sea shipping and port emissions in the Baltic; reconcile different interests and needs within the region's maritime sector; coordinate efforts to make the Baltic Sea a model area for clean and competitive shipping; as well as contribute to coherent maritime spatial planning that covers diverse maritime sectors.
