Paprika under sails

While recollecting the great shipping names of the past we shouldn't forget about MAHART - a company from… Budapest.

Hungary - believe it or not! - once sailed on the seven seas. The paprika-loving country unfortunately disembarked from maritime voyages, but MAHART (contrary to Czech Ocean Shipping and Deutsche Seereederei mentioned in the previous editions of transport miscellany), has neither a memorial corner in the Web nor an entry in Wikipedia. Outrageous, isn't it?

The youngest trace we managed to find in our archives is a photo of the Vörösmarty taken in 1997 in Calcutta. The vessel was sold in 2000, renamed Yong Kong, and reflagged to Cambodia. The date 2000 suggests that the company situated geographically farthest from the sea stayed longer in the shipping business than both of its aforementioned partners from the Comecon time.
