New storage tanks for crude oil in Gdańsk

PERN, the state-owned company managing Poland's oil pipeline system, will add two 100k m3 tanks to its fuel base in Northcentral Poland.

The PLN143m (approx. €34.3m) worth contract will be executed by the winning consortium of Mostostal Warszawa and Mostostal Płock. The two tanks are scheduled for commissioning at the break of autumn and winter 2020.

Today, the facility comprises 18 tanks (900k m3 in total) for storing crude oil that is shipped to the Port of Gdańsk's Neftoport (of which PERN is the majority shareholder). Once upgraded, the fuel base will offer 1.1m m3 of crude oil storage capacity.

"The need to set up these tanks in Gdańsk stems from the necessity of developing this market in Poland, but most of all because we have to secure the Polish refineries' supply chain. We have to take care of the energy security, as well as cater to our clients' needs, who demand both the quantity and quality of oil shipments coming to Gdańsk, whether it means oil separation or splitting it into different streams," Tadeusz Zwierzyński, VP of the Management Board, PERN, told the Newseria information agency.
