Port of Klaipeda: 43.17mt handled in 2017 (+7.6% yoy)

The Lithuanian seaport marked a new all-time high in cargo handlings last year, particularly owing this to dry bulk turnover which rose by 15.8% year-on-year to 19.24mt.

General cargo and liquids added the remaining 12.44mt (+0.7% yoy) and 11.49mt (+2.8% yoy), respectively.

The port's 2017 container traffic amounted to 473k TEU, up by 6.7% yoy. At the same time, however, Klaipeda handled fewer ro-ro cargo units, down by 2.4% yoy to 269.2k.

Klaipeda's cruise business also noted a record year. The port served 63 calls with a total of 74.7k travellers on board the cruise ships, an increase by 16.2% on the previous record result from 2016. The port expects to serve around 80k cruise ship passengers this year.
