Last train to China
Publication date: 2017-03-14
The picture shows an industrial locomotive of the TKp "Śląsk" class, the last model of steam locomotives made in Poland for domestic purposes and for export.
Altogether 406 such units were built by the Fablok Works in Chrzanów between 1950-63, of which 90 - with fraternal communist help, naturally -found their way as far as to China.
Like many steam engines, some units have been given a second life after retirement.
About 15 of them are preserved in Poland (like to one presented which stands proudly in the heritage park in Chabówka) and 10 have been sold to Western Europe.
