New West Port's construction sets off

After a decade of planning, the Danish Port of Kalundborg has begun setting up a new harbour, the 330 thou. m2 big New West Port.

Out of the total area, some 130 thou. m2 will be reclaimed from the sea.

The new 15 m deep facility, to be completed in February 2019, will house, among many, a container terminal and storage areas (incl. for dry bulk).

New West Port's 500 m long quay will be available to cruise ships, too, following a recent agreement between the port authority and Blue Water Shipping and PWL Port Services to jointly run a cruise terminal. A total of 25,000 m2 of the new harbour will be designed for taking care of cruise operations.

"It is a big day for our city and I am feeling very positive about the expansion of the port. This will create new jobs, a stronger business cluster and increased settlements for the benefit of the entire municipality," Martin Damm, the Mayor of Kalundborg, said.
