Baltic Transport 2013 highlights - Polish national rail operator on stock exchange

PKP Cargo followed Deutsche Bahn’s tracks putting 49% of its shares on stock.

The Polish state-owned PKP Cargo made its debut on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in November 2013 by making a public offering of 20.9 mln shares.

The cost of one share amounted to PLN 68 in the public offer, while the share quotation at the beginning of the debut day totalled PLN 80.2 (+17.9%). Just before the closing of the stock, the value of PKP Cargo amounted to PLN 81.16 per one share (+19.4%). The Polish state will remain the majority shareholder of PKP Cargo, having 50% + 1 share of the firm.

According to the Polish Office of Rail Transportation, in 2013 PKP Cargo had nearly 50% of share in Poland’s rail freight market (tonnes carried) and almost 60% of share when taking into consideration rail performance (tonnes-kilometres executed). After Deutsche Bahn PKP Cargo is Europe’s second largest carrier in terms of total transported freight.
