Baltic Transport 2013 highlights - First LNG ferry on the Baltic

Viking Grace launched on Stockholm-Mariehamn/Långnäs-Turku route.

On 15th January 2013, the EUR 240 mln worth ro-pax Viking Grace of Viking Line set course on its first journey.

Viking Grace is a pioneering step towards LNG shipping in the Baltic Sea. Apart from gas carriers, it is the biggest ship running on Liquefied Natural Gas, thanks to which the ro-pax already complies with the stricter sulphur regulations which will come into force across the Baltic at the very beginning of 2015.

The 57 thou. GT vessel has 214 m in length, 31.8 m in width and can travel at the speed of 22 knots. Viking Grace can accommodate up to 2,800 passengers and offers 1,275 lane metres for cargo.

Apart from its dual-fuel Wärtsilä’s engines, the ship features also a hydrodynamically optimized hull shape designed to minimize swell waves and a high-efficiency and energy-saving propulsion machinery.
