Ice restrictions in St. Petersburg

Publication date: 2012-01-17

Tags: maritime, russia

From January 27th the access to Big Port of St. Petersburg will be banned for vessels without sufficient ice-class due to ice thickness of 10-15 cm.

Under the order, Articulated Tug/Barge (ATB) will not be allowed to sail in the ice-covered harbour, while vessels without ice-class reinforced hulls may sail only with icebreaker assistance. Ships with different ice-class will be permitted to sail in the ice on their own (with guidance and permission from an icebreaker) or escorted by an icebreaker.
